Day 4 - Part One

 The hippos were singing last night. I'm told that their vocalization is because they are arguing over their territory. Needless to say I didn't sleep well. I woke to the most beautiful sunrise. However I was too tired to get up and take a picuture. This day we are doing two safari drives, one in the morning and then one at 4:30 so we avoid the heat. We woke, had breakfast and were in the truck by 7:30 AM. This morning we saw elephants, zebras, mongoose, secretary bird, and spring bok all before we stopped for tea, and biskets. 


We stopped for tea and biskets at a pond that had a few hippopotamus 


And behind us there were zebra's and red lechwe.

On the way back to camp we saw giraffes and baboons 
At camp we had lunch. We had meatballs with pasta, salad, cheese and crakers. It was delisious. After lunch we went for a nap. It was too hot to do anything. At 4:00 we gathered in the main lounge for tea and sweets. At 4:30 we were in the truck again and off for another safari drive....

After our nap and tea we headed out again. This would turn out to be the most amazing drive yet. We found the lions.... But first we saw elephants, red lechwe and baboons...  They Caltex with his amazing tracking skills found the lions. They were resting and hidden in the bushes.  they relocated their napping spot twice while we were watching them. They walked right if front of the truck, not caring that we were there. There were 11 of them - at least 2 males and the rest were females. They were all young.  We were so close to them it was amazing. I was later told that the lions view the truck as a big box and if you keep your body in the vechicle and don't move around they don't know what to make of the box. But if you put hand out then they become curious.  While we where sitting there watching the lions, more elephants, baboons, giraffes and warthogs that came walking into the area.  The baboons were vocalizing to the other baboons that there was danger near....

day 1-2

We arrived in Cape Town on Tuesday afternoon. It was a long but enjoyable flight from Dullas, 14+ hours. Flight attends were outstanding. The seats were comfortable and the food delicious. I had steak, with spinach and a glass of wine. Dirk had a pasta dish and an ice cream sundae for dessert. I had cheese and grapes for dessert. We were picked up by Kelly from Jarad transportation and the driven by Cindy to our accommodation. Welgelegen House is an old, but beautiful place. The evening host, Kirsten showed us to our room. He didn't have the keys available but promised our belongings would be safe. We went to dinner at Karibu Restaurant. We shared a game platter. It consisted of Ostrich, Kubu, Impala, Spring box, venison sausage which was a mix of the different meats we sampled, ostrich sausages and some type of Beef. I enjoy the ostrich and the spring box. Day zero

Last night we discovered that our flight from San Diego to Dulles was delayed 3 hours. We scrambled to find a flight that would get us to Dulles ontime for our flight to Cape Town this evening. We were able to get on a flight with Southwest Airlines. The chat agent with United Airlines was unhelpful, but the agent we spoke with on the phone was able to cancel our San Diego to Dulles flight so we could file for a refund. Our agent happened to be in Cape Town and was very helpful. He was going to upgrade us to first class, but we are already booked in first class for our flight to Cape Town. This morning we left at 4:45 am. Wendy was supper exited we were up. She wanted to play ball and was whipping her stuffed monkey around. We left her without saying goodbye...
